Ewan Macdonald

Director of Product | Sports Data & Digital Engagement

Building data-driven products that power real-time insights & seamless customer experiences.

I'm an experienced product manager, specializing in sports data but open to the world. I bring a compelling blend of technical and business skills to the table. Here I'll share a bit about my track record and the kinds of projects that excite me.

Data-driven, continuous improvement

In my present role at Sportsdata.io, I work with an all-star team of engineers and data operations staff to provide the best sportsbook data in the business:

📈 Bookmakers Expanded: From 5 → 15+ sportsbooks

Latency Reduction: -50%

🔢 Markets Increase: +40%

Expand and multiply

I'm a big believer in the power of data to drive business growth. Here are some of the other projects I've worked on to help Sportsdata.io grow by helping our partners grow:

📈 Projections
Leveraging the BAKER Engine to provide Bayesian predictions of NFL, MLB and NBA games, down to the play level.

🔢 Relationships
Frequent communication with our partners to ensure we're meeting their needs and exceeding their expectations.

Sports Expansion
🎾 Tennis, WNBA, and more

Meet customers where they are

We're putting the finishing touches on our customer journey overhaul. I've had a major hand in that alongside our superb front end and design staff:

📈 Optimized
First impressions are key. We're working on a new customer journey to ensure our users get the best experience from day one.

Always putting the user first

I have a real passion for B2C work. Putting yourself in the shoes of the user is key to success. Learn from stakeholders and users alike, then execute.

At Neighborly, I was tasked with rebuilding their site and app from the ground up. Supporting dozens of brands and hundreds of franchises, I learned a lot about the importance of user-centric design.

(Oh, and I was named Marketing Team Member of the Year in my first full year at the company!)

Best backlogs, best process

✅ Agile Certified | ✅ Jira Expert | ✅ Process Optimization

There's no gap between stakeholder expectation and developer understanding. Jira, Trello, Monday and more - the tools are important but the process is key.

(... and the key to an effective process? Communication. And the key to that? Relationships!)

Business Efficiency: No-Code, AI, Automation

How can we not talk about AI?

We're using AI to automate our workflows and improve our customer experience.

Even prior to the AI revolution, I brought no-code tools to the table at several companies

Documentation: Communication lines are open

Sure, it's a necessary evil. But it doesn't have to be a pain.

Quality, not quantity. Approachable, searchable documentation that pre-empts user questions beats War & Peace any day.

Few things make me happier than hearing a client on the phone tell me, "and wow, those docs! I actually read them and used them!"
